PHP 5.5 + Zend Opcache

On my dev server, I updated PHP to version 5.5.2. This included switching from APC to Zend Opcache. I’m instinctively wary of anything with the name Zend attached. I’m also quite fond of APC, with its high performance, relative stability, compatibility with the various code obfuscators, and arbitrary object storage. APC had been slated for official inclusion in the PHP distribution for 5.4, but that didn’t work out, and PHP 5.5 included Zend instead.

Why I Don’t Believe

To be clear: It’s not that I believe there is no god, I just don’t believe there is a god. I don’t know if it can be known, and I don’t care. To the question, “God?,” there are three possible answers: “yes,” “no,” and “I don’t know.” I do not respond with any of these answers. I just don’t answer the question.

This is a longer post than I like writing. I’m sorry. The length is necessary in order to be sufficiently clear and precise.

Emergencies

Last month I asserted that, in the presence of enough “integrity,” emergencies couldn’t exist. This assertion came out of a complaint I had that everyone around me was constantly having emergencies, and it was interfering with my plans. Meanwhile, I (whose farts don’t stink) do not have emergencies. I have enough “integrity” that “unforeseen circumstances” do not become “emergencies.”

Assisting with Landmark Education

I took an assisting [1] position at Landmark some years ago, as “Production Supervisor” for a seminar series. This position consisted of managing a small team (5 people, I think.) We were responsible for all aspects of the production and logistics of this seminar series. There were ten seminar sessions, one per week with a few breaks. This meant the assisting position was (mercifully) time-bound.
